Hi Guys and welcome back to our fit travel blog!
As many of you already know we love to travel. We combine the love of fitness and travel and we organize fitness vacations. We always go to exotic places where conditions are ideal for different fitness activities. Today we want to write about one of our favorite places where we always come back with big smiles. We’re talking about Island of Oahu Hawaii- an ideal destination for a fitness vacation!
This place has something for everyone. You can hike, road or mountain bike, surf,paddle board, train or practice yoga on many beautiful beaches or mountain tops. The island of Oahu is known as the “gathering place”, and what a great place it is for fitness enthusiasts to gather.
The capital city of Honolulu, world famous Waikiki Beach and historic Pearl Harbor are must see spots, but we recommend that you rent a car and really explore the island! This is where the real magic is! For your fitness challenge we recommend you climb Koko Head trail which is about 20 minutes away from Waikiki. To get to the top you must climb 1,048 stairs/railroad ties, which were originally built during WW2 to get supplies to the military bunkers at the top. The stairs are very steep. Towards the top you have to pretty much lunge up! We did this climb a few times. You can time yourself so you get to the top for the sunrise or sunset and enjoy breath taking views!
After the climb you must visit Pa’ina Cafe which is located just below in Koko Marina Centre for a fit-friendly meal. We ate here everyday and can’t wait to come back! For around $12 you can have an awesome meal. Check out our favorite seared tuna steak with rice, potatoes and salad.
Driving north you’ll find many beautiful beaches (we do some of our sand bag bootcamps here) and you can drive all the way to North Shore where the surfing competitions are and during winter you can experience 20 feet waves! There are many great gyms in Honolulu but we recommend you visit Kakaako Fitness. If you want to find a hardcore gym this is it! Local legend, IFBB Pro bodybuilder Chris Faildo, “The Hawaiian Hurricane”, is the owner of this great gym and if you want to take your training to the next level check it out! If you’ve never been to Oahu we highly recommend it! Ideal climate, fresh air, friendly people and incredible nature are all part of this amazing island. It is a very active destination but remember, you must explore the island! Of course we’re inviting everyone to join us on our fitness vacations.
