Fit Destination: Lake Garda, Italy

By Paul and Magda Wilk

Hi Guys! Welcome to another fitness road trip blog. As you know, we love to travel!!! Especially to fitness oriented destinations. Today we want to tell you about this amazing place we visited in Italy called Lake Garda.

Located in the northern part, it’s Italy’s largest lake and it’s known for its charming towns, breath taking views and local cuisine. But this place is amazing for sport/fitness activities. Actually this is the outdoor sports capital of Europe. Active people come here from all over the world because it offers something for everyone! It’s very popular for all different water sports like kitesurfing, wind surfing, sailing, wakeboarding and lately even stand up paddle boarding. Every day you’ll see hundreds of sails enjoying perfect wind conditions. You can mountain bike all the amazing bike paths (there are many bike tours if you choose).

For more advanced cyclists you can go around the whole lake which is about 100 miles with some nice steep heels! You’ll explore many breathtaking towns along the way. Absolutely beautiful! Most people split the trip to 2 days and stay along the way but for advanced cyclists it can be done in 1 day. There are many hiking trails for all you nature lovers. You’ll find trails for beginners as well as seasoned hikers! You can also golf, para glide or rock climb many fantastic cliffs.

We stayed in the town of Riva Del Garda and we highly recommend it. It’s less than a 2 hour drive from Venice or you can take a train and get there for about 10 euros. You’re also about a 2 and half hour drive from the world famous city of Milan and about 1 hour from romantic city of Verona known for Shakespeare’s  Romeo and Juliet. If you’re planning the trip to Italy and are a fitness nut definitely make a stop here! You won’t be disappointed!
